Gaskells Waste Services works with hundreds of businesses across the whole of Shropshire, including the borough of Telford and Wrekin, which incorporates the stunning town of Ironbridge. Ironbridge is dominated by the huge 100 metre Iron Bridge, which opened in 1781, and is the first major bridge in the world to be made of cast iron. It’s an important symbol of the dawn of the industrial age as it was close to here, in Coalbrookdale, the technique of smelting iron with coke was perfected. In 1986, the bridge, the town and Ironbridge Gorge were named a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and has many notable visitors, including the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh who walked across the bridge back in 2003.

Nowadays, Ironbridge is a major tourist attraction in Shropshire, and is home to a number of thriving pubs, restaurants and shops, many of which we work with, helping them to recycle more and save money.

First up, the impressive Tontine Hotel.  The hotel has stood since 1784, and was actually built by the owners of the Iron Bridge. A stunning building, it’s been a haven for many weary travelers over the years, looking for bed and breakfast or longer stays, and has consistent five star reviews. Comfortable rooms are all extremely tastefully furnished, many overlooking the river. They all include a TV, telephone, all en suite, and some even have four poster beds.

We’re proud to have been working with the Tontine for some time now for their waste management services, a great hotel with a great team, definitely recommended if you’re looking at a stay in Ironbridge, a real part of the town’s history.

Tontine Hotel, Ironbridge

A wander around Ironbridge will reveal many gorgeous bars and shops, all independent local businesses who have created a really buzzing community here. Lots of great eateries and craft shops and we’re proud to say we’re working with an increasing number of these businesses. If you like pubs, in Ironbridge, you’ll be spoilt for choice.

The Malthouse is yet another historic building within a stone’s throw of the bridge. Established in 1854, it’s been recently refurbished and refreshed and offers a large range of  craft ales, cocktails, live music and world food all under one roof. It has 12 B and B rooms, along with an incredible Penthouse suite & a Riverside cottage with two double rooms each and a stunning river view.

The Malthouse is part of the Craft and Jam chain, four stunning pubs in and around the area, with a fifth one opening very soon…. The Smokey Cow in Beckbury. The existing ones are The Bull at RodingtonThe Last Inn at Newport and a little stroll down the road from The Malthouse, The Swan Taphouse.

Another historic building dating back to the 18th century, when it was a malthouse, it’s now a cosy hotel, with rooms as quirky and unique as the food on the menu. The bar has a full range of craft ales, and weekey entertainment and The Swan is only a six minute walk from the Iron Bridge. The ideal place to enjoy an overnight stay, with a great team behind it, whose passion for the job shines through. We’re proud to work with the whole Craft and Jam chain for all their waste management services, where we carry out multiple collections, all tailored to each pub’s needs, with glass collections, food, paper and general waste.

We also work with a growing number of holiday lets across all areas we operate, and one of our newest customers in the Telford area is just a six minute drive from Ironbridge, in the picturesque town of Much Wenlock. It’s slightly off the beaten track, but well worth a visit. Much Wenlock has been a market town for over 700 years and has a history that stretches back much further. The architecture is a mixture of Medieval, Georgian and Victorian and there are many historic monuments including an abbey dating back to 680 AD.

Westwood Lodge from Wenlock Studios is one of our latest customers to come onboard, a brand-new timber-framed luxury countryside holiday accommodation suitable for large parties of up to 16 people. It’s  roughly two miles outside Much Wenlock, set in stunning countryside and is perfect for a group getaway. Wenlock Studios is a family run business, established in 2012 by husband and wife team Doug and Julie. Westwood Lodge is a real labour of love, having being built by Doug himself. It’s set in stunning countryside, boasting eight bedrooms, a downstairs games room with a pool table, air hockey and smart TV, which leads to a brand new fitted kitchen and open-plan dining area.

This place really has to be seen to believed, cosy log burners, under floor heating, a private enclosed garden with a wood fired hot-tub, BBQ area, fire pit, table tennis table and dart board. This place has been built to be as eco-friendly as possible so we’re delighted to be working with  Doug and Julie on this.
