Many kinds of hotel waste

Hotels generate an unusually diverse range of different types of recyclable and non-recyclable waste, and it’s not always possible to sort these at the moment that they are thrown away.

For example, you might have paper recycling bins in your offices and reception area, food waste caddies in your kitchens and glass waste bins in your bar area.

But in addition to these, you’re likely to have mixed recyclable and non-recyclable waste left in bins by guests in your bedrooms.

You might also have litter bins around your grounds outside or in the communal areas inside your buildings, and these too can generate mixed waste – even if you ask guests to use recycling bins.

Gaskells can help you to provide clearly designated recycling bins for all the different recyclable waste streams you generate on-site, and suitable rubbish bins for everything else.

We aim to send nothing to landfill – so even the general waste we collect is treated and processed if possible, for example to produce energy via combustion and reduce our reliance on fossil fuel power in the process.

Choose a Container Type

Sizes range from 240 litre to 1100 litre containers with lockable lids available.

These are ideal for all types of business & commercial waste including general waste, cardboard, mixed recycling, food and glass.

Front End Loaders, or FELs, are the familiar kind of commercial lidded skips, suitable for large volumes of compactable waste, and especially for recyclable cardboard waste and other dry mixed recyclables.

Roll On-Roll Off, or Ro-Ro skips, are among the largest containers available for commercial use, suitable for the disposal of very large quantities of general waste and bulky materials like construction waste and scrap.

Working harder on hotel recycling

At the start of the 2010s, research by Wrap found that hotels were recycling less than half of the waste they generated – just 46% including packaging, non-food and composted or anaerobically digested food waste.

The organisation found that 62% of non-food waste and packaging was recycled in 2011, with this number being highest for cardboard and glass.

In the years since, hotels and hospitality establishments – with the help of responsible waste management contractors like Gaskells – have been working hard to improve on these numbers.

The result is a joined-up waste management strategy for hotels, including on-site recycling bins to sort mixed recyclable materials at the point of disposal, specific collection methods for different types of waste, and ethical disposal that minimises waste sent to landfill.

Whether you need to dispose of confidential documents from your offices or potentially hazardous broken glass from your kitchens, Gaskells can supply suitable recycling bins, collect and dispose of that waste accordingly.

That not only keeps your premises clean, but also helps you to meet your obligations as a business to reduce waste, document your waste transfers and support eco-friendly disposal methods.

Hotel waste collection schedules that work

We appreciate that because hotels are not like other businesses, hotel waste collection schedules sometimes need to be different too.

Gaskells work closely with all of our customers to create a waste collection schedule that works for them – and for hotels that might mean we only come to empty your bins at specific times of day, to avoid disturbing your guests.

When you enquire about our hotel waste disposal services, we can talk through all of the options with you and decide on a schedule that works for us and even more importantly, one that works for you too.

This is all in addition to supplying you with the correct kinds of wheelie bins, dumpsters and other waste containers to keep your premises clean, tidy, hygienic, and safe from hazards like broken glass.

Gaskells are proud to be the only waste management contractor you need, providing you with a fully joined-up service and a waste disposal strategy that covers everything your business needs so you and your guests can get a good night’s sleep.
