We’ve been working with Warrington Wolves as their preferred waste management provider at the Halliwell Jones for the past two seasons, helping the club increase recycling rates and reduce their carbon footprint due to our carbon neutral status. As part of our work with them, as we also like to get involved with our customers, on more than a just ‘here’s your bins’ level, we sponsor the half time fans challenge, “Bin It To Win It”.
Last season, it was a race between three Wire fans who raced the whole length of the pitch, kicking and chasing the ball, to see who’d be first to get it into our bin. This season though, the challenge has evolved into a man wearing a Gaskells green morph suit (the brainchild of Warrington CEO Karl Fitzpatrick), the Wire Flyer, who races against a chosen fan at half time, to get one of our bespoke rugby balls into our bin. The Wire Flyer’s identity is a closely guarded secret, one which thousands of fans have been trying to guess, us included, but all to no avail. The Wire Flyer remains a man of mystery..a very FAST man of mystery, and we’ve been wanting to challenge him for some time now. He’s only been beaten once and has already had some formidable opponents, including Marwan Koukash and Robbie Hunter Paul. Step forward Jay from our Transport Department, the only member of our team brave enough to take on the Wire Flyer challenge.
The night in question was a packed house at the Halliwell Jones.. Warrington Wolves V St Helens, in a warm up for the Challenge Cup Final.. Jay in his green Gaskells T shirt, The Wire Flyer in his Gaskells green morph suit…. there could only be one winner…

We do need to clear something up here, this wasn’t the original Wire Flyer, as he’s injured, but his stand-in, was former player Wayne Godwin. He was at the game being filmed for Rugby AM and is always up for a laugh, so when asked if he’d don the Gaskells morph suit, the answer was yes. A great night, we’d like to thank Wagga and the rest of the team at Warrington Wolves, we’re not too sure the original Wire Flyer was too pleased with the result!
