Gaskells are proud to announce we are now working with Wigan and Leigh Hospice to collect and dispose of all waste at their 13 shops across the two boroughs.
The hospice provides an invaluable service, giving palliative and end of life care to hundreds of people ever year. It’s a registered charity, funded mainly by donations and support of local people. The shops are a valuable part of that income, and in 2015 generated over £1 million. They’re staffed by volunteers, which keep running costs down, but until we got in touch with them, they had no bins in the shops. Their delivery drivers were collecting all the waste and taking it to the local council tip. In theory, this sounds cost effective, but in reality, it wasn’t. The sheer volume of waste, and collections and journeys to the tip meant the truck was out of action for days, in turn affecting the collection and delivery of quality items to the shops and customers, which is all part of their valuable income.
Our Wigan and Leigh Business Development Manager Rob visited all the shops with staff from the Hospice, to carry out waste audits, and look at access. Together with the team from the Hospice, they came up with a brand new cost effective solution, which would make things easier for the staff, and allow them to devote more time to running the shops and making money. This is the first time Wigan and Leigh Hospice have used a Commercial Waste Management company, so Gaskells are extremely proud. Our bins and bags are now on site at all shops, and we’ll be having regular review meetings to make sure everything runs smoothly
Gaskells are delighted to be working with Wigan and Leigh Hospice, as the services they provide are absolutely invaluable to so many families, and at a time when they need it most. For us to contribute to making things run more smoothly and cost effectively is a real honour. We’ll also be taking part in some of the charity events the Hospice holds every year.
Their shops are in Ashton, Atherton, Golborne, Hindley, Leigh, Leigh Furniture Shop, Newtown, Pemberton, Platt Bridge, Shevington, Standish, Tyldesley and Wigan.
