Scrap Metal Recycling
What is classed as Scrap Metal?
To put it simply, scrap metal is any combination of waste metal, metallic material or a product that contains metal, which is capable of being recycled, and can include vehicle parts, building supplies, copper wire, stainless steel, aluminium cans. Metal falls into two types, ferrous or non-ferrous. If a magnet doesn’t stick to the metal, it’s non-ferrous. Some scrap metals are worth money, some aren’t, so here at Gaskells we have more than 20 years of dealing with scrap metal and can give you expert advice on what’s best for you and your business. Regardless of your company’s size, we also have the facility to cope with all sizes and volumes of scrap metal.
Why should scrap metal be recycled?
Nearly all metal can be recycled, but it is not recycled enough. There is still a huge amount of scrap metal being transported to landfills in the UK every single year. This is unacceptable when metal does not itself biodegrade, and landfill space is running out. Recycling scrap metal also saves more energy and produces fewer gas emissions than making new metal from its ore. The best example of this is recycled aluminium: producing aluminium from recycled materials uses 92% less energy than mining it from its ore.
